Right Place, Wrong Person

To begin this project, RM opens with a confused narration that creates different combinations of “right”, “people”, “wrong”, and “place”. Through this meditative and puzzling track (certain FX sounds and shouting in the background add to the confusion), RM reveals how interchangeable these words are, just as a human being’s “rightness” or “wrongness” in an environment can be quickly modified according to their mindset.  Through these subtle modifications, RM suggests that a person can go back and forth between "Right" and "Wrong" if they accept themselves as the focal point in their lives. If they recognize they are at the center of every situation they place themselves in, then they can discern whether they are the right or wrong person in the wrong or right place (rather than let other people or societal standards define/label them). 

"Nuts" opens with a wet, funky bass followed by Namjoon's tolerating "all right, all right, all right, all right"; his words of acceptance symbolize the calmness after the album's tumultuous opener. Namjoon takes us on the high of the previous track's outro while also cooling down the world he created for us. "Nuts" is a self-realization and preservation song that declares there is no inherently "right" approach to a relationship because people will make the same decisions in the end. Namjoon argues that you can make the right place for the person you're interested even if society doesn't agree. Nuts is an angry song because he is talking about the struggles, distrust and levels of nonsense within his past relationship.

This song tells the tale of two individuals he has experienced difficulty with: both a man and a woman. The woman is described as a "gas lighter" that no man could ever fight, while the man is glued to his text messages or asking for money.  It is probable the man was unfaithful if he was glued to his Kakaotalk in this way, but it may also mean he was just mooching off of his contacts. Ultimately, the love wasn't sincere when he was arguing with Namjoon over money and what he could get out of the relationship. I find it rather fitting that he says "mad" for the woman perspective and "nuts" for the man (perhaps a double entendre). Beautiful transition from English and Korean. The shell of the trust becomes an ugly monster. I want you to feel the pain that you caused me to feel. Love is destined to fail when trust is nonexistent. The transition from the second chorus features a musical energy change that is so atmospheric and soul levitating. Euphoric, crazy experience, epiphany moment. He tries to remind the person everything amazing that he brought to the table and how good he made that person feel. (reminiscent of closer's bridge/outro). This magical sonic scene is followed by korean lyrics ("Since you left I'm finally alive" that sparks the music change again (Contradictory to his statement). When he is with the person he feels so high and free, but the aftermath leaves him in this awkward musical breakdown phase.  Almost like he is lying to himself and you hear that in the musical breakdown. His archive of his twenties was filled with love and pain and heartbreak. This person hurt him, scarred him. The monster hasn't been me (rap monster has left the chat) but forever I wish you a true happiness (because he knows Karma comes around). But he wants the person to know that their betrayal cut deep. Stigma is a song that Tae wrote on Wings, so I find it interesting that Namjoon decides to sing "there's a stigma on my chest it's called YOU". Perhaps now RM feels tainted by that person, like the memory of that person is imprinted on his chest and causes a distaste in his mouth. A tale of toxicity. And that is nuts!
